My Front Cover

I chose the idea of my magazine and I wanted it to look like a vibe magazine, the layout, but possibly not the picture. Here was the start of the editing process of my front cover photo.

1. Here was the photo i chose to go on my front cover. I changed the contrats brightness and used the clone tool, to get rid of the spots and moles on his face.

2. I then cut around the picture carefully using the magic wand. When you do this it makes it look like its been cut out, well it has but we dont want that to happen. So I next used the blur tall to make it look like i hadnt cut it out.

3. After i found a grey bakcground on the internet and copied and pasted onto photoshop, then typed in the title and the font i wanted on DAFONT, which i print screened and pasted onto photoshop, then added other things such as the 'jack lorrence' the barcode and 'THE REAL RAP'.

4. I then got more text off of dafont and pasted it onto photoshop, placed it where I wanted.

5. After I added the final touches of the text and other pictures, also the price, date and i used the 'T' tool to write to0uch such as the text at the bottom and at the top and now it is finished!

Heres the start of another front cover I came up with. First i start by taking a picture and editing on photoshop. cropping, rubbing out, editing contrast and brightness, also cutting around the image, blurring etc.

After doing the editiing I go the grey background off of google, then i placed it behind the image and title. So the title i got off of DAFONT, once i fonud the font I wanted i print screened then pasted it onto photoshop, cropped it and thats how i done this part.
Here ive added in some extra writing, which i go off of dafont. But the top writing, the smaller writing i used the 'T' to write that text at the top .
Here I have just been pracitsing with differet backgrounds and main images. And I just wanted to see which ones worked best. So far I'm not that impressed with any of them, so i will be doing another photoshoot. I dont no whether to go for the urban, graffiti background or the plain gray background which is a bit like 'Q'. But personally I find that quite boring and no very eye catching. The magazine I am planning to imatate is a vibe magazine with eminem on the front.

Here is my ideal mag, which i plan to copy! except I may make an adjustment to the background

Heres another presentaion i made up of comparing the things i liked of clash and vibe. I said the things i liked about vibe and the things I didnt, there werent many things i liked about clash though

The position of the person on this vibe magazine is the position I have used for the person who is posing for my magazine. I like how he is crouched its more interesting and when he is stood up with his arms folded its a bit boring. The thing that I have done is had a picture of him sat on a chair instead i have him sat on a small amplifier.
Here is my photo which i have taken at my own home, Ive tried to make him look like a bit of gangsta by getting him to make funny hand gesters which i copied off of this magazine.

Here is one of my presentations as you can see its not very detailed but contains the may facts I wanted to say. I didnt have any bad points about 'VIBE' magazines because I didnt seem to find any and I really like it.

I have already been thinkig about what I want to call my music magazine and also what I want it too look like, the name I have come up with is Intercept and thats the name I am going to use. I have looked at different types of font i could use on dafont and here are my findings...
The ones which i like the most are the 3rd one, bottom left and top right, but i think the music that i want in my magazine will suit the top right one most. so  i have to make my decision. I did also really like the first one, ut the only problem is that It doesnt really stand out at you, ts really faint and that would be the problem, i want it to catch peoples eyes and make them want to buy it.

Here are another three magazines the Duffy one I don’t like the ‘Son of Dave’ Cd cover on the bottom right, it takes up ¼ of the main image, and I think it ruins the front cover. I do like the main image, I do like the picture of Duffy though, she’s seems quite bright because of the background is quite a dull colour, I also like the text is going around the main image, it gives it a kind of outline. Also the title is great but I don’t think the font of it matches the artist on the front cover. That kind of font seems like it should be on a ‘VIBE’ magazine. I really like the ‘VIBE’ magazine because the title is big and bold and matches the singers who are in this magazine; they have a colour scheme it seems like of back red and white, which I like it really works well. Also the text is either underneath or beside the main image which Is good, it also seems like it’s giving the main image an outline which makes the main image stand out more, and gives it a 3D edge to it. ‘Songlines’ is another magazine I found, I do like the colours it makes the magazine stand out. I’m guessing this magazine is targeted at mix race and religion because of the artists we see on the front cover. The font of the masthead definitely fits with the genre this is made for. It’s not the magazine I would read but I can imagine it being a good magazine for people who like that kind of music.

I have to say I prefer these music magazines much more than the three other magazines at the start, they stand out more, there more to my taste and I just love the colours used on some of them. ‘Mojo’ I love the way the main image is underneath the masthead. Also the page isn’t full with loads of information, it’s only got the little bit of text at the bottom and top, I really like this layout because it’s not overloaded. Also I lie it how the main image fills the whole page. The second magazine is ‘MIXMAG’ the colours are great, it has ranges of font and loads of different sizes of text. Also I love the layout of the writing; it’s around the edge of the page. The only thing that I’m not so keen on is the whole of a CD cover at the bottom right; I think it ruins the layout of the whole page; it looks like they have just plonked it in the middle of the page. The third one ‘NME’ the masthead and the puff stand out loads because of the colours, love how they have done this. The red colour onto the white makes it really stand out, but the white onto the black stands out much more, it’s bold and the text makes you want to read this magazine. The layout is brilliant and Lily Allen has matching hair and clothes to this magazine, it’s a bit gothic. I also like the way some of the text and puffs are coming off of the page. But its not really my kind of magazine.

As you can see all of these posters have a different genre, some of them I don’t like because of the pictures or because of the way they are laid, the one which I like the best in the top row is probably the first ‘Q’ one because of the picture, he’s dressed quite casual and down to earth but I don’t really like the way the magazine is laid out, its to plain and personally I think its very boring and not eye-catching at all. Also compared to the others it is quite classy.  The second one I completely dislike because of the image and of the colours, but the way it is laid out with the kind of smashed glass is very eye-catching and interesting.  The third one I still do not like the picture, it seems like the people on the front are rebellious and really hard core, they look quite punk rock people also they look a bit like trouble makers . It doesn’t look like the kind of music magazine I would read, it seems a little like the people are, ‘kerrang’ also has smaller images on the page and  showing you what else is in the magazine and taking you away from the main image. The things that I like about all of these magazines are that all of the main images are all on top of the masthead, and I really like that effect.

Here is my final contents page, i added some of my own photos and used some of the internets. I used all of my  text on my front cover and wrote it on my contents page, also adding some extra text.
The things I would have changed to make my contents page better were to use all of my own pictures and not to use most of the internets, also I could have made it a bit more interesting by putting the text in different places rather then having it in a bit chunk on the left. Also maybe have changed the colour of the orange circles behind the pictures because they stand out quite a lot.
The things I liked about my contents page where the way the pictures were layed out, down the right side of the page and each one was sligthly ontop of the one above it. Also I liked my plain title, I thought it stood out quite a bit and went with the front cover, also the background colour went with the front cover too, I got this picture off of the internet. I got the circle from the shape tool in photoshop. I also liked the way each of the pictures were ontop of one of the circles, but I should have changed the colour of them.
The pictures denote that the contents page is for  teenagers, because of the pictures of the clothes and teenager. Also the way the contents page is layed out you wouldnt think its for anyone younger than 15, but it wouldnt be for anyone older than 18 because it doesnt seem formal enough and looks too childish for anyone over 18.
The one picture of the girl at the bottom gives connotations of it being in a school becuse she has her work in her hands and behind her of the paper on the wall and seats is also showing us that it is in a school.

Procdess of my magazine cover

First I started by taking a photo of what I wanted on my front cover, I chose this one.

Then next I cut out the picture using the rubber in photoshop. I tried to go around the image very carefully and tried to make the image not that bumpy.

But the image was bumpy so I had to use the blur tool to make it look like i didnt cut it out.

Here i chose my background off of the internet, I chose this image because it reminds me of chew valley school, the leaves, trees and the green space. Also it looked good for a magazine, i thought!

Then I added my title 'five days' i got the title from dafont.com, chose which lettering i wanted then wrote the text. then I print screened the writing and pasted onto photoshop. Then I used the text tool and added all the rest of the text also got the bar code picture off of the internet and copied and paste. Also used dafont again to create the 'the big fashion'

Then added the final details, blurred the picture a little bit more, added 'ISSUE'  onto 'the big fashion' then added the date 'oct 2011' next to the letter F in the title ' five days' and then thats the final magazine cover.

These are all photos which I took from my own house and belongings and obviously my brothers as well. Most of the things that I have taken pictures of represent girls or boys or both. For example this picture of loads of girls clothing is showing how obsessed most girls are with buying more and more clothes.

These are just loads of DVD's, can represent girls or boys, but the kind of things that are in this picture I'm pretty sure its represented more for boys!

Also showing how obsessed we are with shoes, well I am :P

This is showing that our day and age we are having loads of work to do.

Also these weights are representing boys. Most boys now at our age go to the gym or do they own training in there house.

Tuesday, 11 October 2011

Here is my final magazine cover, I based it on a Vogue magazine because i like the classy look, also the way the image on the front cover is laid out! Also i like the way the text is laid out, around the image and along the side, also they have a puff on most of the vogue magazine at the bottom and i really liked that! Here are the Vogue Magazines i was inspired by...Here is where I got the idea of the picture i took from, just plain smiling at the camera wasnt too bold and too flirtitious.

This is where i got the text idea from and instead of 630+ pages of fabulous fashions i put 110+ new looks for teenagers and thats where i got that from. Also i got the way the picture was ontop of the title from that too.

This is where i got the idea for my background i thought because of the surroundings of the school it reminded me of my final background picture, it looks a lot like the country, which is where chew valley is!

And this is where i got my idea for 'The BIG Fashion Issue' But i chose to put it at the bottom because it would go over my main picture too much and i didnt want that!

Wednesday, 28 September 2011

Here we started to design a magazine(only for practice) as you can see we have edited the contrast and brightness. Also we have put the writing on top of the picture. The blue boxes represnet where text would be, also we have added a little puff which has writing inside, and we done the puff to make it stamd out and so people would read it!

Wednesday, 21 September 2011

Heres the same picture but ive been messing around with it, i used the liquify to change all the background so it was all squiggly, also used a filter, i think it was posterize and edited the contrast and brightness
The centre image is the image i edited on photoshop as you can see i used cloning and dodging also bluring and smudge to make the edges smoother, we done this with mr wilson. But today we were told how to put words/ text onto the front cover. We went on a certain website to create different fonts with different writing e.g. do kids always get what they want? then we print screned the writing, pasted it onto a new layer, cut out the bit that we wanted, deleted the bit we didnt want then pasted it again. then if we wanted to put the writing ontop of the girl we would put the layer on the top(this is where the section for layers are), if we wanted it behind we would put it below the girl, thats how i made the writing go behind(adverage kid), then we carried on adding different text.
